VMware NSX 4.x: Install, Configure, Manage

NSX deployments rarely fail at configuration — they fail at design: a Tier-0 layout that cannot scale, an underlay chosen without asking the overlay, a segmentation model that was elegant in the workshop and unmaintainable by year two. VMware NSX 4.x: Design is the course for the engineers accountable for those decisions, teaching a structured design method for network virtualization: requirements and constraints in, documented and defensible architecture out.
It is an expert-level program that assumes the platform knowledge of Install, Configure, Manage and real enterprise networking depth, then spends its time entirely on judgment — topology and edge design, scale and failure domains, security architecture, multi-site, and NSX inside VMware Cloud Foundation, where the networking layer is load-bearing whether or not anyone designed it deliberately.
We arrange delivery through authorized partners, matching you with instructor-architects who have designed production NSX estates — live online in your time zone, on site, or as a private workshop applied to your own topology and segmentation project.
Topic areas below are grouped in our own words. The full official agenda is available on request — it comes from the authorized partner as part of your quote.
| Duration | On request |

Factual criteria only — level, duration, audience and certification. The right choice depends on your team's starting point and stack.
The hands-on platform course and the assumed baseline here. Choose ICM to learn how NSX works; Design when the question is what your NSX should look like — topology, scale, segmentation model — before or between deployments.
Full-stack Cloud Foundation architecture, with NSX as one of several layers. Choose VCF9-SAD for the architect who owns the whole platform; NSX Design for deep, dedicated treatment of the network and security architecture itself.
Sitting on a half-finished segmentation design or a multi-site question? A custom architecture workshop applies the design method directly to your topology and application inventory, with an instructor-architect stress-testing the draft.
If your team needs a subset of this program — or a mix of topics from several courses — we build a custom 2–4 day intensive on our own materials, shaped by your infrastructure. One custom program typically replaces 2–3 catalog courses.
Explore custom coursesICM teaches configuration and operation; Design teaches choice. The material is architecture decisions — topology, underlay requirements, edge sizing, segmentation strategy — evaluated against requirements and constraints, with documentation discipline to match. Expect design exercises and defended trade-offs rather than configuration labs.
Whoever will sign the design. It assumes both solid NSX experience and genuine enterprise networking depth — routing, BGP, failure domains. Virtualization engineers without the networking half should build it first; the design conversation assumes it constantly.
Especially then. VCF makes NSX load-bearing and will default many decisions unless someone makes them deliberately — topology, edge placement, segmentation model. This course is how the person who owns networking makes those defaults into choices.
Yes — as an architecture problem rather than a firewall feature: segmentation models, policy structure and the maintainability question that decides whether the design survives its third year. The mechanics of distributed firewalling are covered in ICM and assumed here.
