Implementing and Operating Cisco Service Provider Network Core Technologies

VPN services are where a provider’s reputation is actually made: the core can be flawless, but if customer A ever sees customer B’s routes, the conversation moves to lawyers. SPVI (Implementing Cisco Service Provider VPN Services) trains the engineers who own that service layer — L3VPN and L2VPN mechanics from VRFs to pseudowires, EVPN as the modern control plane, inter-AS designs, IPv6 services over an IPv4 core, and the layered troubleshooting that VPN tickets demand.
The course maps to exam 300-515, one of the CCNP Service Provider concentrations, and pairs with SPCOR to complete the certification. Beyond the badge, it is the standard preparation before a service migration — VPLS to EVPN, new inter-AS interconnects, or onboarding a large customer whose requirements exceed the current playbook.
We organize delivery through authorized partners whose instructors have built VPN services in production — live online in your time zone, on site, or as a private group with labs weighted toward your service portfolio.
Topic areas below are grouped in our own words. The full official agenda is available on request — it comes from the authorized partner as part of your quote.

Factual criteria only — level, duration, audience and certification. The right choice depends on your team's starting point and stack.
The certification core: the full SP technology map with VPN services as one chapter among many. Take SPCOR first for CCNP Service Provider; SPVI then turns the VPN chapter into a week of depth and completes the certification as a concentration.
The classic technology course on MPLS itself — label switching, LDP, traffic engineering foundations. Choose MPLS to build the transport understanding; SPVI assumes it and concentrates on the services sold on top: L3VPN, L2VPN, EVPN.
Migrating VPLS to EVPN, or standing up inter-AS L3VPN with one specific partner? A custom 2–3 day program on our materials rehearses exactly that migration on a lab modeled after your service portfolio.
If your team needs a subset of this program — or a mix of topics from several courses — we build a custom 2–4 day intensive on our own materials, shaped by your infrastructure. One custom program typically replaces 2–3 catalog courses.
Explore custom coursesIt is a concentration option. The certification requires the core exam 350-501 (SPCOR course) plus one concentration; SPVI maps to 300-515 and is the natural pick for engineers whose job is building and running VPN services rather than core routing or automation.
Both. Classic L3VPN and L2VPN mechanics remain the backbone of the course because they remain the backbone of most service portfolios, and EVPN is covered as the current control plane for Ethernet services and multihoming. Instructors adjust weighting for private groups.
For buyers, usually not — a shorter architecture briefing serves better. But enterprises that operate their own MPLS or EVPN core across sites, as many banks and utilities do, are effectively internal providers and get full value from the course.
Primarily IOS XR, the platform of Cisco provider edge and core routers, with IOS XE where it fits. Prior XR exposure helps; teams new to it can schedule an IOS XR introduction first, and we can arrange the two as one sequence.
