Where does SPVI fit in CCNP Service Provider?

It is a concentration option. The certification requires the core exam 350-501 (SPCOR course) plus one concentration; SPVI maps to 300-515 and is the natural pick for engineers whose job is building and running VPN services rather than core routing or automation.

Does the course cover EVPN or only classic MPLS VPNs?

Both. Classic L3VPN and L2VPN mechanics remain the backbone of the course because they remain the backbone of most service portfolios, and EVPN is covered as the current control plane for Ethernet services and multihoming. Instructors adjust weighting for private groups.

Is SPVI useful for enterprises that buy, not sell, MPLS VPNs?

For buyers, usually not — a shorter architecture briefing serves better. But enterprises that operate their own MPLS or EVPN core across sites, as many banks and utilities do, are effectively internal providers and get full value from the course.

What platform are the labs on?

Primarily IOS XR, the platform of Cisco provider edge and core routers, with IOS XE where it fits. Prior XR exposure helps; teams new to it can schedule an IOS XR introduction first, and we can arrange the two as one sequence.
