SPCOR Training for Your Team — Implementing and Operating Cisco Service Provider Network Core Technologies

Provider backbones fail differently from enterprise networks: an outage takes down not one company but every customer riding the core, and the engineer on shift needs to reason about IS-IS, BGP policy, MPLS transport and the services layered on top as one system. SPCOR (Implementing and Operating Cisco Service Provider Network Core Technologies) teaches exactly that system view — core routing at scale, MPLS and segment routing transport, VPN services, QoS, infrastructure security and the automation basics that make thousands of routers operable.

It is also the certification anchor: exam 350-501 is the core of CCNP Service Provider and the qualifying exam for CCIE Service Provider. Carriers use it to standardize their engineering bench; large enterprises use it when their WAN has effectively become a private carrier network.

As a training operator, we organize SPCOR delivery through authorized partners with instructors who have run production backbones — live online in your time zone, at your site, or as a private group weighted toward the parts of the core your network actually runs.

Who this course is for

  • Network engineers at carriers, ISPs and MSPs formalizing skills for the CCNP Service Provider track
  • Enterprise WAN engineers whose network has quietly grown to provider scale
  • NOC and operations staff moving from monitoring the backbone to engineering it
  • Integrator teams delivering projects on IOS XR platforms for provider customers

SPCOR vs alternatives: which to choose

Factual criteria only — level, duration, audience and certification. The right choice depends on your team's starting point and stack.

Cisco SPRI (Advanced Routing)

The routing concentration that follows SPCOR: advanced IS-IS, OSPF, BGP policy and route manipulation in depth. Take SPCOR first for the certification core and the full technology map; add SPRI when routing design is your team's daily work.

Cisco ENCOR (Enterprise Core)

The equivalent core course for the enterprise track — campus, wireless, SD-WAN. Same 5-day format and CCNP role, different world. Choose ENCOR for corporate networks; SPCOR when the business is carrying other people's traffic on MPLS/SR backbones.

A custom intensive

If your team needs only the MPLS, segment routing and VPN-service parts of SPCOR mapped to your own backbone, a custom 2–4 day program on our materials covers exactly that scope without the certification breadth.

Need only part of SPCOR?

If your team needs a subset of this program — or a mix of topics from several courses — we build a custom 2–4 day intensive on our own materials, shaped by your infrastructure. One custom program typically replaces 2–3 catalog courses.

SPCOR: frequently asked questions

Is SPCOR enough for CCNP Service Provider certification?

SPCOR covers the core exam 350-501, which is half of CCNP Service Provider. You also need one concentration exam — advanced routing (SPRI), VPN services (SPVI) or automation (SPAUI). We plan the full path with you, including the concentration course.

Does SPCOR count toward CCIE Service Provider?

Yes. Passing 350-501 is the qualifying requirement for the CCIE Service Provider lab exam, so engineers targeting CCIE start from exactly this course and then build lab depth on top of it.

We are an enterprise, not a carrier — is SPCOR still relevant?

If your WAN runs MPLS, segment routing or BGP at scale — common in banks, utilities and large groups — the material applies directly. Teams focused on campus, wireless and SD-WAN are usually better served by ENCOR; we help you pick per team.

Which platforms do the labs use?

Lab work centers on IOS XR, the operating system of Cisco service provider routers, alongside IOS XE where relevant. Engineers coming from classic IOS get a structured introduction to XR configuration and commit-based workflow rather than being thrown in cold.
