SPCNI Training for Your Team — Designing and Implementing Cisco Service Provider Cloud Network Infrastructure

Carriers no longer sell only circuits: the growth products are cloud on-ramps, edge platforms and network functions running as software on provider-operated infrastructure. That shift lands on network engineers who were trained for transport, not for virtualization. SPCNI (Designing and Implementing Cisco Service Provider Cloud Network Infrastructure) closes that gap — provider cloud and NFV architectures, data center fabrics in the SP context, cloud connectivity across the backbone, and segment routing and EVPN as the stitching between domains.

The course maps to exam 300-540, the cloud infrastructure concentration of CCNP Service Provider, making it the natural pairing with SPCOR for engineers on the cloud side of the house. Providers typically book it while planning a cloud connectivity product, an edge build-out or an NFV migration — before the architecture decisions harden.

We organize delivery through authorized partners and vetted instructors — live online in your time zone, on site, or as a private group focused on the parts of the cloud stack your roadmap actually contains.

Who this course is for

  • Provider architects and engineers building cloud, edge or NFV infrastructure
  • CCNP Service Provider candidates choosing the cloud infrastructure concentration
  • Data center engineers at carriers whose fabric now serves cloud services, not just hosting
  • Technical leads planning cloud connectivity products on an existing backbone

SPCNI vs alternatives: which to choose

Factual criteria only — level, duration, audience and certification. The right choice depends on your team's starting point and stack.

Cisco SPCOR (SP Core)

The certification core and the assumed baseline: routing, MPLS/SR transport and services across the whole SP map. Take SPCOR first; SPCNI then specializes in the cloud and virtualization layer and completes CCNP Service Provider as a concentration.

Cisco DCCOR (Data Center Core)

The data center track core: Nexus fabrics, UCS compute, ACI and storage networking. Choose DCCOR when the job is the data center itself; SPCNI when the point is weaving cloud infrastructure into a service provider backbone and product line.

A custom intensive

Designing one concrete offering — cloud on-ramps, an edge platform, an NFV migration? A custom 2–4 day program works through your target architecture with an instructor, rather than the full concentration curriculum.

Need only part of SPCNI?

If your team needs a subset of this program — or a mix of topics from several courses — we build a custom 2–4 day intensive on our own materials, shaped by your infrastructure. One custom program typically replaces 2–3 catalog courses.

SPCNI: frequently asked questions

Where does SPCNI sit in the CCNP Service Provider track?

It is the newest concentration option: exam 300-540 pairs with the core exam 350-501 (SPCOR course) to complete the certification. It suits engineers whose work has shifted from pure backbone transport toward cloud infrastructure, NFV and cloud connectivity services.

Is SPCNI about public cloud or the provider's own cloud?

Primarily the provider side: infrastructure a carrier builds and operates — virtualized network functions, DC fabrics, edge platforms — plus the connectivity that links customers to public and hybrid clouds across the backbone. It is not an AWS or Azure administration course.

How does SPCNI differ from a data center course like DCCOR?

DCCOR treats the data center as the product: compute, storage, fabric, ACI. SPCNI treats it as one domain in a provider architecture, focusing on how cloud infrastructure integrates with WAN transport, segment routing, EVPN and SP service models.

Do we need SPCOR before SPCNI?

For certification, the core exam is required regardless of order, and the SPCOR course is the standard preparation. Technically, SPCNI assumes comfortable knowledge of provider routing and MPLS or segment routing transport — experienced backbone engineers can take it directly.
