VTSW8 Training for Your Team — VMware vSphere 8: Troubleshooting

Every vSphere team has a diagnostic ceiling: the point where an incident stops being solvable in-house and becomes a support case, a war room, or a reboot performed with crossed fingers. vSphere 8: Troubleshooting exists to raise that ceiling — a five-day workshop where environments are deliberately broken and participants learn to find the fault with logs, command-line tooling and a methodology that works at 3 a.m. as well as it does in class.

The course covers the places real incidents live — storage, networking, vCenter and ESXi internals, cluster features misbehaving under load — but its lasting value is the process: a repeatable way to narrow a fault instead of guessing at it. For teams paying for extended support or burning senior engineers on every escalation, it is one of the most directly self-funding courses in the VMware catalog.

We organize delivery through authorized partners whose labs are built to be broken, with instructors who have carried production pagers — live online in your time zone, on site, or as a private group with fault scenarios weighted toward your incident history.

Who this course is for

  • Experienced vSphere admins who own incident response for the platform
  • Engineers tired of escalating cases they suspect they could solve with better method
  • Operations teams reducing dependence on external support for routine faults
  • Senior admins mentoring juniors and wanting a teachable diagnostic process

VTSW8 vs alternatives: which to choose

Factual criteria only — level, duration, audience and certification. The right choice depends on your team's starting point and stack.

vSphere 8: Operate, Scale and Secure (VSOSS8)

The advanced operations course — running the platform well so it breaks less. Choose VSOSS8 for proactive operational maturity; Troubleshooting for the reactive skill of diagnosing it quickly when it breaks anyway. Strong teams eventually take both.

VCF 9.0 Troubleshooting

The equivalent discipline for the full Cloud Foundation stack, where faults cross vSphere, NSX, vSAN and the SDDC management layer. Choose it if VCF is your platform; VTSW8 for classic vSphere estates.

A custom intensive

If your incident history clusters around one area — storage latency, HA behavior, certificate expiry cascades — a custom troubleshooting workshop can drill precisely those scenarios on a lab modeled after your estate.

Need only part of VTSW8?

If your team needs a subset of this program — or a mix of topics from several courses — we build a custom 2–4 day intensive on our own materials, shaped by your infrastructure. One custom program typically replaces 2–3 catalog courses.

VTSW8: frequently asked questions

How hands-on is the course?

Very — it is built around lab scenarios where instructors break environments and participants diagnose and repair them using logs, command-line tools and a structured methodology. The lecture content exists to make the lab time effective, not the other way around.

How much command-line work should participants expect?

A lot. Serious vSphere diagnostics happens in ESXi shell sessions, vCenter logs and CLI utilities rather than the graphical client. Admins who work exclusively in the UI will cope, but prior command-line comfort noticeably raises what they take away.

Is this course too advanced for our team?

It assumes real administration experience — ICM-level knowledge plus time in production. Admins newer than that should take Operate, Scale and Secure first; sending them here early means they spend the labs learning the platform instead of the method.

Will it reduce our support-case volume?

That is the typical business case: teams send fewer routine escalations and provide far better diagnostic data on the cases they do raise, which shortens resolution either way. The methodology also transfers to platforms beyond vSphere.
