The moment an SD-WAN fabric enables direct internet access, every branch becomes a perimeter — and the firewall estate your security team knew is replaced by policy on the edge routers. SDWSCS (Implementing Cisco SD-WAN Security and Cloud Solutions) is the course for that moment: the embedded security stack — firewalling, intrusion prevention, content filtering, segmentation — plus the cloud side of the fabric, from IaaS onramps to integrating cloud-delivered security services.
It is the natural specialist step after ENSDWI or equivalent fabric experience, and it deliberately sits between two teams: network engineers who own the fabric and security engineers who own the controls now implemented inside it. Companies typically book it alongside a direct-internet-access rollout, a branch security consolidation, or a move of workloads into public cloud that the WAN has to follow.

The five-day core implementation course behind exam 300-415, a CCNP Enterprise concentration: fabric design, deployment and policy in depth. Take ENSDWI first if the team builds fabrics; SDWSCS assumes that foundation and specializes in the security and cloud layers.
Cisco SDWFND (SD-WAN Foundation)
The two-day operational foundation: architecture, bring-up and day-two operations. Choose SDWFND for teams new to the platform; it is also the minimum entry point before SDWSCS for engineers who will not take the full implementation course.

What does SDWSCS add on top of ENSDWI?
ENSDWI covers fabric implementation broadly; SDWSCS specializes in two layers it can only introduce: the embedded security stack — branch firewalling, intrusion prevention, content filtering, segmentation — and cloud connectivity, including direct internet access and onramps to IaaS and SaaS. It is depth, not repetition.
Do participants need ENSDWI before SDWSCS?
They need its working knowledge, not necessarily the course. Engineers comfortable with fabric operation, templates and policy — from ENSDWI, SDWFND plus experience, or a production role — cope well. Participants who have never touched the platform should start with SDWFND first.
Is this a security course or a networking course?
Deliberately both, which reflects how branches are now built: the security perimeter is implemented as SD-WAN policy. Network engineers get the security stack in their own policy language; security engineers see where their controls physically live. Mixed network-and-security groups get the most from it.
Does the course cover direct internet access safely?
Yes — direct internet access is a central scenario: breaking traffic out locally at the branch while applying firewall, intrusion prevention and content controls at the edge or via cloud security services. The labs practice building it so it holds up, not just switching it on.
