Cisco Aggregation Services Router 9000 Series Essentials

The riskiest engineer on a provider network is one who knows classic IOS well and assumes IOS XR is the same thing with extra steps. XR’s two-stage commit, modular architecture, routing policy language and package-based software model exist for good reasons — and each one is a trap for the unbriefed. IOSXR100 (Introduction to Cisco IOS XR) is the structured briefing: CLI orientation for IOS-raised engineers, the commit-and-rollback workflow, routing configuration XR-style, software management, and the day-two toolkit for logs and debugging.
It is a foundation course with a precise job: making engineers safe on XR before they touch production, and making follow-on courses — platform essentials for ASR 9000 or the 8000 series, SPCOR and the CCNP Service Provider track — dramatically more productive because nobody is fighting the CLI.
We organize delivery through authorized partners — live online in your time zone, on site, or as a private group, often scheduled deliberately in the week before new hires get their production accounts.
Topic areas below are grouped in our own words. The full official agenda is available on request — it comes from the authorized partner as part of your quote.
| Duration | On request |

Factual criteria only — level, duration, audience and certification. The right choice depends on your team's starting point and stack.
Platform training for one specific XR chassis family: hardware, features, upgrades. Choose ASR9KE when the team runs ASR 9000 and needs platform depth; IOSXR100 is the lighter, hardware-neutral entry into the operating system itself.
The CCNP Service Provider core — five days of SP technology that use IOS XR as the lab platform rather than teaching it from scratch. Take IOSXR100 first if XR is new; SPCOR then spends its time on technology instead of CLI orientation.
Onboarding a group onto your specific XR estate? A custom program can combine XR introduction with your platforms, your configuration standards and your change process — the fastest route from hire date to safe hands on the core.
If your team needs a subset of this program — or a mix of topics from several courses — we build a custom 2–4 day intensive on our own materials, shaped by your infrastructure. One custom program typically replaces 2–3 catalog courses.
Explore custom coursesDifferent enough to warrant a course: two-stage commit instead of live configuration, a modular OS, distinct routing policy language, different software management. Experienced IOS engineers adapt fast with guidance — and dangerously slowly without it, usually on production equipment.
Yes — the point of the course is keyboard time on XR: navigating, configuring routing, committing and rolling back, handling software packages. Attendees leave having done the operations that would otherwise be their first nervous production changes.
IOS XR runs across Cisco service provider routing platforms, including the ASR 9000 family and the 8000 series, and the course teaches the operating system independent of chassis. Platform-specific depth comes from the follow-on essentials courses.
It makes engineers safe and oriented — able to read configurations, make committed changes and roll back cleanly. Full operational competence on a specific platform and design typically adds a platform essentials course or mentored production time on top.
