Surviving one is decided long before it starts — by placement, baselining and thresholds someone configured on a calm Tuesday. The FortiDDoS Administrator course trains engineers for exactly that preparation: how the appliance learns normal traffic, how protection profiles map to real services, and how to read an attack in progress well enough to know whether mitigation is winning.

We have cloud-based DDoS protection — why an appliance course?
The common architecture is hybrid: cloud scrubbing absorbs large volumetric floods, an on-premises appliance handles low-and-slow, protocol and application-layer attacks with second-by-second reaction. The course covers where FortiDDoS fits in that division of labor.
How is FortiDDoS different from DoS policies on a FortiGate?
FortiGate DoS policies are threshold rules on a stateful firewall; FortiDDoS is a dedicated, behavior-learning appliance designed to stay standing while absorbing attack traffic at line rate. For serious exposure, the dedicated layer protects the firewall itself.
Does the course include attack simulation?
Lab scenarios include generating attack-like traffic against protected services so engineers can watch detection, mitigation and reporting respond. It is the closest most teams get to a live attack before the real one, and the main reason to train before, not after.
How much ongoing tuning does FortiDDoS need?
Less than signature-based systems, but the baselining period and per-service thresholds must be set thoughtfully as traffic patterns evolve. The course covers the operational rhythm: initial learning, seasonal adjustment and post-attack review.
