DCIHX Training for Your Team — Implementing Cisco HyperFlex

HyperFlex sits in an awkward spot: the platform is past its selling days, but the clusters bought during its prime still run production workloads — and the engineers who deployed them are increasingly elsewhere. What remains is an estate that must be upgraded, expanded, protected and occasionally nursed through a node failure by whoever is on staff now. DCIHX (Implementing Cisco HyperFlex) exists for exactly that team.

The course builds genuine platform understanding rather than button knowledge: the distributed storage architecture, the UCS layer underneath, cluster deployment and expansion, vSphere integration, native snapshots and replication, and the upgrade and maintenance routines that keep an aging platform boring. Attendees leave knowing not just how to operate HX, but what its data platform is doing beneath the datastores they present.

We organize delivery through authorized partners with instructors who have run HyperFlex in production — live online in your time zone, on site, or as a private group, optionally extended with a custom module on your planned migration path.

Who this course is for

  • Administrators operating an existing HyperFlex estate through its lifecycle
  • Virtualization engineers whose vSphere clusters run on HX and who own the full stack
  • Teams that inherited HyperFlex from a project and need structured platform knowledge
  • Support staff at integrators maintaining HX installations under contract

DCIHX vs alternatives: which to choose

Factual criteria only — level, duration, audience and certification. The right choice depends on your team's starting point and stack.

Cisco DCIUCS (Introducing UCS)

The compute foundation underneath HyperFlex: fabric interconnects, service profiles, Intersight. Choose DCIUCS if the team is shaky on UCS itself; DCIHX assumes that base and concentrates on the hyperconverged layer above it.

Cisco DCCOR (Data Center Core)

The broad CCNP Data Center core across network, compute and storage (exam 350-601). Choose DCCOR for career-grade breadth and certification; DCIHX for focused operational competence on a specific HCI platform your team must keep healthy.

A custom intensive

Many HyperFlex owners now plan a migration path as the platform ages. A custom program on our materials can combine HX operations with your target platform — running the estate well today while rehearsing the exit.

Need only part of DCIHX?

If your team needs a subset of this program — or a mix of topics from several courses — we build a custom 2–4 day intensive on our own materials, shaped by your infrastructure. One custom program typically replaces 2–3 catalog courses.

DCIHX: frequently asked questions

HyperFlex is no longer sold — why train on it now?

Because the installed base did not disappear with the sales sheet. Organizations run production workloads on HX clusters that must be operated, patched and kept healthy for years of remaining lifecycle. Structured training beats learning a storage platform from support tickets — especially one nobody new joins knowing.

What background do attendees need?

Comfortable vSphere administration plus general server and networking literacy. Deep UCS expertise is not mandatory — the course covers the parts of the UCS layer that matter for HX — but admins completely new to Cisco compute benefit from DCIUCS first.

Does the course cover data protection on HyperFlex?

Yes: native snapshots, clones and replication are covered, along with their honest limits — where the built-in tooling suffices and where a separate backup product remains necessary. That boundary is one of the most common operational misunderstandings on HCI platforms.

Can training include our migration planning?

Not within the standard curriculum, but this is a frequent private-group request: standard HX operations content combined with a custom module on your target platform and migration approach. Mention it in the request form and we scope the program accordingly.

How do we organize DCIHX training?
